The City of Tucson is asking voters for a sales tax increase for the next 10 years. If approved, Tucson’s sales tax rate would increase to 9.2% on goods and services.
This would be the highest city sales tax of any major Arizona City.
The City of Tucson has a $2.4 billion annual budget. They are stating that due to a reduction of state shared revenues, the City of Tucson is receiving $27 million less per year or roughly 1% of the existing budget. Their solution, without performing an analysis to prioritize budget spending, is to tax residents an additional $80 million per year.
Proposition 414 is NOT the solution. Tucson can do better.
City residents will vote on Prop 414 by mail only in a special election.
Ballots will be mailed February 12, and residents must mail their ballots back by MARCH 5.
On March 11, the official election date, some polling locations will be open for dropping mail ballots.
